How to soften lines under the eyes
Updated

Short answer
Under-eye lines can be softened with sun protection, moisturising skincare and selected procedures, but the delicate eye area needs an individual assessment before treatment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Sensitive area
- Skin under the eyes is thin and easily irritated
- First measures
- Sun protection, gentle moisturising and less rubbing
What causes under-eye lines
Fine lines under the eyes may reflect repeated smiling and squinting, dryness, thinner skin, reduced elasticity or environmental exposure. Crow's Feet are expression lines at the outer corners, while lines directly beneath the eyes may also relate to skin folding and facial movement.
Sun-Damaged Skin can make creasing and uneven texture more visible. Rubbing the eyes, smoke exposure and poorly tolerated products may add irritation, so the cause and exact location should be checked before a procedure.
Approaches to discuss
Use broad-spectrum sunscreen around the eye area as directed, sunglasses outdoors and a bland moisturiser that does not sting. Avoid pulling or rubbing the skin and introduce active products cautiously.
A clinician may discuss Botox for selected movement-related lines or Microneedling for some texture concerns. The eye region has important vessels and structures, so only an experienced medical professional should assess whether a procedure is appropriate.
When to seek care
Arrange an examination if lines occur with persistent swelling, itching, scaling, discharge, pain or a change in vision. After treatment, urgent care is needed for vision changes, severe pain, marked swelling, pale or dusky skin or breathing difficulty.
Questions for your doctor
Are these expression lines, dryness, irritation or another eye-area problem? Which treatment is safest for the exact location, what recovery should I expect, and how will you protect the eye?

Questions people ask
Can eye cream remove fine lines?
A suitable moisturiser can reduce the look of dryness, but it cannot erase every structural or movement-related crease.
Are injections suitable under the eyes?
Suitability depends on the line pattern, anatomy and medical history; an experienced clinician must assess the area first.
