How to remove black spots in the armpit

Shaving, friction, deodorant sensitivity, and repeated inflammation can leave post-inflammatory pigment. A spot may also begin around a blocked or irritated follicle, including folliculitis or razor bumps. Pimples can leave marks after they settle, even when the original bump was small.

Look for clues such as itch, burning, scale, tenderness, pus, or recurring bumps. Smooth, darker skin in both armpits can have a different cause from isolated dots around hairs. A clinician can examine the pattern and review products, hair-removal habits, and medicines.

Pause fragranced or stinging products, wash gently, dry the folds well, and wear clothing that reduces rubbing. Avoid picking, aggressive scrubbing, and shaving over active bumps. If shaving triggers marks, use a clean sharp razor, lubrication, and fewer passes; consider discussing another hair-removal method.

Do not apply strong bleaching agents, steroid mixtures, or unlabelled creams to the armpit. Treatment depends on the cause and may include care for folliculitis or acne, followed by a pigment plan once inflammation is controlled. LED light therapy may be discussed for selected inflammatory concerns, but it does not replace diagnosis.

Book an assessment if spots persist, spread, recur with painful lumps, drain, scar, or come with significant itch or scale. Seek prompt medical care for rapidly worsening redness, warmth, swelling, fever, or severe tenderness, especially after a new product or procedure.
