Short answer

Reflexology may feel relaxing for some people, but it cannot diagnose or treat the underlying causes of chronic fatigue.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Fatigue needs a wider view

Fatigue can mean low energy, sleepiness, reduced stamina or difficulty thinking. Persistent symptoms may follow poor sleep, stress, infection, dehydration, medication effects or an underlying condition. Examples include anaemia, thyroid problems, coeliac disease, kidney disease and chronic fatigue syndrome. Reflexology involves pressure or massage to the feet or hands; any relaxation benefit should be viewed as supportive rather than a substitute for assessment.

A sensible approach

Arrange a medical review if fatigue continues, worsens or limits work, study, exercise or self-care. Keep a record of sleep, activity, meals, mood, infections, medicines and associated symptoms. Pace activity with planned rests instead of alternating overexertion with long recovery periods. If you choose reflexology, tell the practitioner about pain, skin problems, pregnancy and medical conditions, and stop if pressure causes harm. Seek advice before taking supplements for tiredness.

When fatigue needs prompt help

Seek urgent care for fatigue with chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, new confusion, one-sided weakness, severe dehydration or thoughts of self-harm. Prompt assessment is also sensible when tiredness comes with unexplained weight change, persistent fever, bleeding, marked thirst or a major change in sleep and mood. These features need evaluation rather than massage-based care alone.

Questions for your doctor

Ask what causes should be considered, whether examination or blood tests are appropriate, how to pace activity safely and whether any medicine or sleep problem could be contributing. Mention whether fatigue began after an infection and how it changes after exertion.
