Red Spots on the Neck: Possible Causes and Care

A rash beneath a collar, necklace, mask, or hair product may reflect friction or contact irritation. Heat and sweat can block or inflame follicles, while shaving can produce small tender bumps. Itch, scale, or a sharp outline supports irritation; warmth, tenderness, crusting, and drainage raise concern for infection. Spots with facial flushing or a persistent central redness may need a different assessment than isolated bumps.

Clean gently and dry the neck carefully after sweating. Pause new perfumes, hair products, necklaces, and shaving until the skin settles. Choose a loose collar and avoid rubbing or scratching.
