Red moles on the neck: what they may mean

A cherry angioma may look bright red, deep red, or purplish. It can be flat at first and become raised, with a smooth surface. Several can appear over time on the neck or elsewhere on the trunk. Friction from collars, jewellery, or shaving may make one irritated or cause bleeding. Colour alone cannot confirm the diagnosis, and a dermatologist may use a magnifying skin examination to distinguish it from another mole or skin growth.

Avoid picking, squeezing, or trying to burn the spot at home. Note its size, colour, surface, and whether it catches on clothing; a clear photograph can help you notice change. If it is repeatedly irritated or you dislike its appearance, a clinician can discuss removal. Options may include Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment or Electrosurgery, depending on the spot and your skin. Treatment can leave temporary redness, crusting, or a change in pigmentation, so ask how healing may look.

Arrange a skin assessment promptly if the spot grows quickly, develops several colours, becomes uneven, forms a sore, or bleeds without clear friction. Seek urgent medical help for bleeding that will not stop with firm gentle pressure. A new red raised spot cannot be identified reliably from a description alone; examination is the safest way to clarify it.
