What should you know about red moles on belly?

Cherry angiomas are benign vascular growths formed by a cluster of tiny blood vessels. On the abdomen they may look like pinpoint red dots or raised, rounded spots. They can be bright red, burgundy or darker when deeper or irritated. Friction from waistbands may make a raised spot catch, bleed after rubbing, or become tender.

A stable, smooth spot may fit a cherry angioma, but a diagnosis cannot be made from location alone. Other vascular, pigmented or irritated lesions can occur on the belly too.

Observe it without picking. Photograph it beside a ruler or familiar object so you can compare its outline and colour later, and protect it from repeated waistband friction. Arrange a skin examination if you are uncertain what it is or if several spots appeared in a short period.

For a confirmed cherry angioma that bleeds from clothing or is cosmetically bothersome, a dermatologist may discuss pulsed dye laser treatment or electrosurgery. Treatment is selected after considering size, elevation, skin tone and healing response.

Seek an assessment when the spot changes quickly, has an uneven border, develops several colours, bleeds without rubbing, crusts repeatedly, or becomes persistently painful. Prompt care is sensible for spreading redness, pus or fever. The abdominal location does not make a lesion dangerous by itself; its behaviour and appearance guide triage.
