Red dry spots on skin: possible causes and next steps

A flat flaky patch differs from a raised pimple or a spot centred on a hair follicle. Acne may include inflamed pimples, while Folliculitis can produce tender or itchy bumps around hairs. Perioral Dermatitis often affects skin around the mouth or nose, and Rosacea commonly presents with facial flushing or persistent central facial redness.
