What should you know about red cherry skin spots?

A pimple often feels like a small tender or rough bump and may have a white or dark centre. Acne presents with pimples alongside blackheads, whiteheads or deeper tender lumps. Folliculitis affects hair follicles and may be itchy, sore or clustered, especially after sweating, friction or hair removal. Razor bumps can follow shaving and tend to sit in shaved areas. Redness around the mouth can occur with perioral dermatitis, while central facial flushing and fine bumps can occur with rosacea. Hormonal acne may follow a recurring pattern around hormonal changes, but appearance alone cannot establish the cause.

Cleanse gently, avoid picking, and use non-comedogenic skincare. Change out of sweaty clothing, reduce friction, and pause close shaving over irritated skin. Introduce only one new acne product at a time and stop if burning or marked peeling develops. Take a photograph if the pattern changes. A clinician can examine the bumps and decide whether acne, folliculitis, razor bumps, dermatitis or rosacea needs different treatment. Seek prompt care for rapidly worsening redness, severe pain, extensive swelling, fever, pus, eye involvement, or painful deep lumps. Arrange a dermatology review when spots keep returning, leave dark marks or scars, spread beyond the usual area, or do not settle with gentle care. Sudden widespread bumps after a medicine or product also deserve timely advice.
