What should you know about red cherries on skin?

A bright red, small, well-defined spot that stays in one place can be a superficial vascular mark. Flat redness with itching, scale, or a recent product exposure may fit contact dermatitis. Heat rash tends to occur where sweat and friction collect. Rosacea can present with facial redness and flushing, while psoriasis often forms persistent scaly plaques. Sunburn follows ultraviolet exposure. Cellulitis is a separate infection pattern involving spreading warmth, tenderness, swelling, and sometimes fever.

Avoid picking, squeezing, or repeatedly rubbing the mark. Use gentle cleansing, moisturiser, and sun protection, and stop a new product if irritation began after using it. Note whether the area is flat or raised, changes with pressure, bleeds, becomes scaly, or multiplies. A dermatologist can decide whether observation, medical treatment, or a vascular option such as IPL photofacial is appropriate.

Arrange a skin check for a new mark that changes in size, shape, colour, or texture, repeatedly bleeds, crusts, or does not heal. Seek prompt care for rapidly spreading redness, significant warmth, pus, severe pain, swelling, red streaks, fever, or feeling faint. Sudden widespread spots with bruising or bleeding elsewhere also need medical review.

Ask whether the mark appears vascular, irritated, or inflammatory; whether it needs dermoscopic review; what changes should prompt rechecking; and whether treatment could affect surrounding skin or cause pigment changes.
