What should you know about a rash that looks like pimples?

Acne tends to produce blocked pores and inflamed spots, while folliculitis affects hair follicles and may look like small, similar-sized bumps. Shaving can cause razor bumps, especially along the beard area. Redness around the mouth may fit perioral dermatitis, and flushing with sensitive bumps can occur with rosacea. Hormonal changes can also influence acne patterns. Notice whether the rash itches, burns, hurts, contains fluid, follows shaving, or appears after a new product.

Wash gently with lukewarm water, avoid scrubbing and picking, and pause newly introduced cosmetics or fragranced products. Use clean pillowcases and avoid sharing towels or razors. If shaving seems to trigger the bumps, give the skin a break and avoid a very close shave.
