What should you know about radiofrequency microneedling for the neck?

Insulated or non-insulated needles enter the skin to a planned depth and release radiofrequency energy below the surface. The controlled heat is intended to stimulate collagen remodelling while the needle channels heal. On the neck, anatomy and skin thickness make conservative settings and careful positioning especially relevant.

The procedure may be discussed for laxity, fine lines, texture, or selected scars. It is not a substitute for assessing a new lump, persistent rash, swallowing difficulty, or unexplained neck swelling.

Tell the practitioner about active dermatitis, infection, cold sores, bleeding problems, implanted electrical devices, medicines that affect healing, and any history of abnormal scarring. Avoid tanning and follow instructions about retinoids, exfoliants, and shaving. Numbing cream may be used before treatment.

Afterward, mild redness, swelling, sensitivity, pinpoint marks, and a warm or tight feeling can occur. Keep the area clean, avoid rubbing and strong skincare until advised, and protect the neck from sun exposure. Improvement is gradual and may require a planned course rather than one visit.

Seek prompt advice if swelling is rapidly increasing, pain is severe or worsening, redness spreads, or the skin becomes increasingly hot. Pus, fever, blistering, marked colour change, or difficulty breathing or swallowing needs urgent assessment. Follow the treating clinic’s emergency instructions if they supplied them.

Ask which RF device and needle depth will be used on your neck, what improvement is realistic, how many sessions may be considered, and how long redness usually lasts for that setting. Discuss pigment changes, infection prevention, aftercare, and alternatives such as standard microneedling.
