What should you know about a Pylarify PET scan?

Pylarify is a name used for a PSMA-targeted PET radiotracer. After injection, the tracer travels through the body and may collect where PSMA activity is present. The PET camera detects the tracer's signal, while CT provides a map of body structures. Together, the images can help the team look for prostate cancer in the prostate region, lymph nodes, bones or other areas. A bright area is not automatically cancer: inflammation, normal tissues and technical factors can affect the appearance. The report is interpreted with your history, examination and other test results. A scan can support staging or treatment planning, but it does not replace clinical judgement or tissue sampling when that is needed.

Follow the imaging centre's instructions about food, drink and medicines, and tell staff about allergies, kidney problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Wear comfortable clothing and remove metal items if requested. Plan to remain still during imaging and follow instructions after the injection. Ask whether you should limit close contact with children or pregnant people for a period after the tracer, according to the centre's guidance. Bring previous scans and the details of current treatment so the radiology team can compare relevant information.

Tell staff immediately about wheezing, facial swelling, widespread itching, dizziness or feeling faint after the injection. Seek emergency help for severe breathing difficulty or collapse. Contact the imaging service about persistent injection-site pain, increasing swelling or other concerning symptoms. Most questions after the scan relate to timing of the report; ask the referring clinician when and how the result will be explained, especially if it will guide a treatment decision.
