Profractional Laser for Stretch Marks

Short answer
Profractional laser can soften the texture and colour contrast of stretch marks, but results vary and treatment usually requires planning and recovery.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How the treatment works
Stretch marks form when skin stretches and supporting fibres change. A profractional laser creates controlled microscopic treatment zones in the skin, leaving surrounding areas available for healing. This can encourage new collagen and make the surface look more even over time. It does not erase the marks or restore skin to an earlier state. Newer reddish or purple marks and older pale marks may respond differently, and the abdomen, hips, thighs, breasts, or upper arms may need different settings.
Preparing for treatment and recovery
A dermatologist should assess the marks, your skin tone, tanning history, tendency to form raised scars, and any active rash or infection before treatment. Ask which medicines or skincare products to pause, and protect the area from sun exposure. Afterward, warmth, redness, swelling, sensitivity, or peeling can occur. Follow the aftercare plan, keep the skin gently moisturised, and do not pick at flakes. Several appointments may be suggested, with time between them for the skin to settle. Other options to discuss include Microneedling, Fractional Laser Treatment, RF Microneedling, or Carboxytherapy.
When to contact a clinician
Contact the treating clinic if pain is increasing rather than settling, redness spreads, swelling becomes marked, blisters develop, or the area produces pus. Seek prompt assessment for fever or a rapidly worsening reaction. Darkening or lightening that persists should also be reviewed, particularly after treatment on deeper skin tones, because settings and sun protection may need adjustment.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the marks are mature or still changing, what improvement is realistic, how many sessions may be considered, what downtime to plan for, and how your skin tone affects the risk of colour change. Discuss alternatives, expected discomfort, aftercare, and who will perform the procedure.
