Short answer

PRFM microneedling combines controlled skin needling with a blood-derived fibrin preparation to support skin texture, while suitability depends on your skin and treatment goal.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

PRFM
A fibrin preparation made from a sample of your blood.
Needling
Creates controlled superficial channels in the skin.
Recovery
Redness and sensitivity can occur temporarily.

What happens during treatment

A practitioner uses a microneedling device to create controlled superficial channels in the skin. PRFM, or platelet-rich fibrin matrix, is prepared from a blood sample and applied or introduced according to the clinician's technique. The intention is to encourage a healing response and improve the feel or appearance of selected areas over time.

It may be considered for uneven texture, fine lines, acne marks, or some sun-related changes. It is not a universal treatment for every pigment problem. Melasma can be sensitive to irritation, and active acne, infection, eczema, or an unexplained rash may need attention first.

Planning and aftercare

Ask the practitioner which device, needle depth, and preparation will be used, and whether your current skincare products should be paused. Mention cold sores, medicines affecting bleeding, immune conditions, poor wound healing, and any tendency to develop raised scars.

Expect temporary redness, warmth, tightness, sensitivity, or pinpoint bleeding. Keep the area clean as instructed, avoid picking or scrubbing, and protect newly treated skin from sun exposure. Resume active products only when your clinician says the barrier has recovered.

When to seek medical advice

Seek advice if redness spreads, pain intensifies, swelling becomes pronounced, blisters or pus appear, or the skin develops persistent darkening or lightening. Fever, facial swelling, or eye-area symptoms warrants prompt assessment.

Questions for your doctor

What specific change are we targeting, and how will you reduce irritation if I am prone to pigment changes? Which products should I stop, when can I restart them, and what alternative such as standard microneedling, fractional laser, or RF microneedling would be reasonable?

Questions people ask

Is PRFM microneedling suitable for melasma?

It may not suit every person with melasma because irritation can worsen uneven pigment; an examination and tailored plan are needed.

What should I avoid after treatment?

Avoid rubbing, picking, harsh exfoliation, and unapproved active products while the skin is recovering.
