Preseptal cellulitis symptoms

The change often affects one side and may include puffiness around the eye, eyelid tenderness, warmth, and skin redness. Fever or feeling unwell can occur. The key safety distinction is that preseptal infection is outside the eye socket: pain with eye movement, impaired movement, blurred or double vision, and a bulging eye suggest a different, deeper problem requiring urgent evaluation.

Contact a healthcare professional promptly for new eyelid redness and swelling, especially after a wound, bite, sinus illness, or nearby skin infection. Avoid rubbing, squeezing, or applying unprescribed creams near the eye. Note changes in vision, movement, temperature, and the spread of redness while arranging assessment.

Go to emergency care for any vision change, double vision, painful or restricted eye movement, a protruding eye, severe headache, vomiting, confusion, or quickly worsening swelling. Fever with rapid deterioration or severe weakness should also be treated as urgent.
