Home ECG devices commonly use skin or hand sensors to collect electrical signals during a selected moment. They may be useful when symptoms are intermittent and a clinician has asked you to record an episode. The result may show a regular or irregular pattern, but it does not assess every cause of chest discomfort, breathlessness, tiredness, or dizziness.

A reading marked normal can be reassuring in context but is not permission to ignore persistent or worsening symptoms. An unreadable tracing is a technical result, not proof that the heart is healthy.

Use the device exactly as instructed. Rest in a comfortable position, keep the contact points clean and still, and record symptoms and their timing in a simple diary. Avoid touching the sensors in a way that changes the contact during the recording. Save the complete result and share it through the method your care team recommends.

Check whether your clinician wants recordings during symptoms, at set times, or both. Do not stop or alter treatment because an app gives a reassuring label.

Call emergency services for severe or persistent chest pain, marked difficulty breathing, fainting, collapse, or new weakness affecting one side of the body. An episode of palpitations accompanied by faintness, sweating, or feeling very unwell needs urgent advice even if the device produces a result.
