Pimples under the chin: what to know

The chin is exposed to oil, saliva, cosmetics, masks, hands, and frequent shaving. Acne commonly presents with pimples in this area, while folliculitis or ingrown hairs may create bumps around beard hairs. A flare that follows a new cream, toothpaste, or cosmetic may reflect irritation rather than acne. Hormonal changes can influence acne patterns, but the location alone cannot establish the cause.

Look for clues such as blackheads, whiteheads, tenderness, itch, hair-centred bumps, scaling, or a rash around the mouth. A clinician can assess these differences.

Use a gentle cleanser and avoid scrubbing or squeezing. Rinse after sweating, keep phones and mask surfaces clean, and remove makeup before sleep.
