Pimples Around the Pubic Area After Shaving

A close shave can leave short hairs with sharp edges that curl back into the skin. Friction, sweat, a dull razor, repeated strokes, and shaving against hair growth can add irritation. Folliculitis causes inflamed bumps around hair follicles and may include pus. Acne can occur in the groin but is less specifically tied to the timing of hair removal. Pause shaving and waxing until the skin settles. Rinse gently, pat dry, and wear loose, breathable underwear to reduce rubbing and trapped moisture. Do not dig for an ingrown hair, squeeze bumps, or apply strong fragranced products to broken skin. For future shaving, soften hair with warm water, use a clean sharp razor and a fragrance-free shaving product, shave in the direction of growth, and make fewer passes. A dermatologist can suggest treatment based on whether the problem is irritation, ingrown hairs, or folliculitis.

Arrange an appointment if bumps persist between shaves, recur frequently, become large or painful, drain, scar, or spread. Seek prompt care for rapidly increasing redness, warmth, swelling, fever, or feeling unwell. Do not apply leftover antibiotics or steroid products without advice, especially on delicate genital skin.
