How Is a PET Scan Used in Lymphoma?

In Lymphoma, FDG uptake can highlight involved lymph nodes and organs that may not be enlarged. The CT component shows where those areas are, while the PET component shows their activity. This combined view can help clinicians assess the distribution of disease and select appropriate areas for further evaluation.

Activity can also reflect infection, inflammation, or recent treatment. A scan is therefore interpreted with the lymphoma type, symptoms, examination, blood tests, earlier images, and any biopsy information. Night Sweats may occur with lymphoma but can have many other causes; a symptom alone cannot establish the diagnosis.

Follow preparation instructions about food, medicines, exercise, and diabetes. Bring a list of treatments and tell the team about recent infections or vaccinations. The clinician may use the result when discussing Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, Radiotherapy, or other treatment options.

If lymphoma returns or does not respond as expected, the care team may discuss additional evaluation and treatments such as CAR T-Cell Therapy or Autologous Stem Cell Transplant. These decisions depend on the lymphoma subtype, previous treatment, general health, and the scan alongside other evidence.

Contact your oncology team promptly about fever, shaking chills, worsening weakness, new breathlessness, confusion, or inability to drink, especially during treatment. Seek emergency help for severe breathing difficulty, collapse, or sudden neurological changes. Do not wait for a planned PET-CT Scan review when a serious symptom is developing.
