Pain after ovulation until your period

Ovulation can irritate the surface of an ovary and nearby tissues, but discomfort that continues for many days deserves attention to its pattern. Note whether it is on one side, cramping or sharp, and whether it changes with movement, bowel movements, urination, or sex. A functional ovarian cyst can cause pressure or aching and may settle as the cycle changes. Endometriosis can cause pelvic pain that follows a cycle and may come with painful periods, pain during sex, or bowel symptoms.

The timing alone cannot identify the cause. Pregnancy, infection, urinary problems, and bowel conditions can also produce pelvic pain, so a clinician may ask about bleeding, discharge, contraception, pregnancy possibility, and previous pelvic problems.

Record the first day of pain, its location, severity, triggers, bleeding, and the day your period begins. Gentle heat, rest, hydration, and avoiding activities that clearly worsen the pain may help. Use an over-the-counter pain medicine only if it is suitable for you and follow its label; check with a pharmacist or clinician if you are pregnant, have stomach or kidney problems, or take other medicines. Arrange a routine appointment if the symptom repeats, interferes with daily life, or is becoming stronger.

Seek urgent medical help for sudden severe or worsening pain, faintness, shoulder-tip pain, fever, repeated vomiting, heavy bleeding, or a positive pregnancy test with pelvic pain. These features can signal a problem needing prompt examination. Do not wait for the next period if you feel acutely unwell.
