Where Ovulation Pain Can Be Felt

The ovaries sit on either side of the uterus, so ovulation discomfort may be noticed low on the left or right. It can remain in one spot, move toward the centre, or spread into the groin. Some people feel a brief sharp twinge; others notice pressure or an ache. A pattern near the middle of the cycle supports ovulation as one possibility.

Pelvic location is not a diagnosis. Pain in this region may also come from the bowel, bladder, muscles, uterus, endometriosis or an ovarian cyst. Endometriosis may cause pain that returns with the cycle, while a cyst may produce one-sided pressure. New pain should be interpreted alongside its duration, intensity and associated symptoms.

Write down the exact spot, whether it is one-sided, how it feels and how it relates to your period. Note bleeding, discharge, nausea, bowel changes, urinary symptoms and pain during sex. For mild familiar discomfort, try warmth, rest and gentle activity. A clinician or pharmacist can advise about suitable pain relief based on your medical history.

Seek urgent care if pelvic pain is sudden and severe, or occurs with fainting, fever, repeated vomiting, heavy bleeding or possible pregnancy. Make a routine appointment if the location changes, pain persists, returns more often, disrupts sleep or daily life, or comes with abnormal discharge, painful sex or bowel and bladder symptoms.
