Can ovulation cause breast pain?

Hormone shifts around ovulation may make breast tissue feel fuller, sensitive, heavy, or sore. Tenderness can affect one or both breasts and may be more noticeable with pressure or movement. The pattern can overlap with premenstrual breast symptoms, so timing alone cannot identify the cause. Note when tenderness begins and ends, whether it follows a cycle pattern, and whether one area feels different from the surrounding tissue. A well-fitting supportive bra, gentle activity, and a warm or cool compress may be comfortable. Use a pain reliever only if it is appropriate for you. Avoid repeatedly pressing the area, which can increase soreness, and arrange an examination for a new change.

Arrange prompt assessment for a new persistent lump, nipple discharge that is bloody or occurs without squeezing, skin dimpling, nipple inversion, redness, warmth, swelling, or fever. Urgent review is needed if breast pain comes with feeling very unwell or rapidly increasing redness and swelling.
