What should you know about OTC treatment for GERD cough?

Follow the label and mention kidney disease, pregnancy, other medicines, or swallowing problems before use. Smaller meals, avoiding foods that clearly trigger symptoms, staying upright after eating, and raising the head end of the bed may help some people. A cough suppressant will not correct reflux itself and may hide a symptom that needs review.

Seek urgent help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, coughing blood, fainting, or sudden confusion. Arrange prompt assessment for difficulty or pain when swallowing, food sticking, vomiting blood, black stools, persistent vomiting, unexplained weight loss, or a cough that is worsening.
