What should you know about orbital microdermabrasion?

The treatment uses a device to abrade the surface layer of skin in controlled passes. The word orbital describes the movement pattern or device action; it does not mean that the eye itself is treated. A trained professional should protect the eyes and avoid active irritation, open wounds, infections, and recently sunburned skin. Results are surface-level, so deeper scars, active inflammatory disease, or marked pigment change may need a different assessment.

Before treatment, share your skin history, tendency to dark marks, recent sun exposure, cold sores, allergies, and all products or medicines that affect the skin. Follow the clinic’s instructions about pausing irritating exfoliants. Afterward, use gentle cleansing, moisturiser, and broad-spectrum sun protection. Avoid picking, vigorous scrubbing, and heat until the skin feels settled. A chemical peel is a different surface treatment and may be discussed as an alternative.

Contact the treating clinic if redness, swelling, tenderness, crusting, or burning is worsening rather than settling. Seek prompt medical care for eye pain, vision change, spreading warmth, pus, fever, or blistering. New or changing dark or light patches also deserve review, especially after treatment on pigment-prone skin.

Ask which device and intensity will be used, whether your current skin condition makes treatment unsuitable, how eye protection will be handled, and what aftercare is expected. Ask when you can restart retinoids or acids and how a concerning reaction will be assessed.
