What should you know about nitro freeze warts?

A clinician applies very cold liquid nitrogen to the wart and a small surrounding margin. The area may sting, turn white, swell, or form a blister; a scab can follow as the treated tissue heals. The wart may not disappear after one visit, and pain, pigment change, scarring, or infection are possible. A lesion that has not been diagnosed as a wart should be examined before freezing, because other growths can look similar.

Keep the area clean and follow the clinic’s dressing instructions. Do not deliberately break a blister; if it opens, wash gently and cover it with a clean dressing. Avoid picking the scab, shaving across the site, or sharing towels and nail tools. Wear comfortable footwear for a treated foot and reduce pressure while it is tender. Ask before using over-the-counter wart products on the same area.

Contact the treating clinic if pain is worsening rather than settling, redness spreads, pus develops, or the area becomes increasingly warm. Seek urgent care for fever with a rapidly worsening wound, severe swelling, or signs of an allergic reaction. Arrange reassessment if the lesion bleeds repeatedly, changes appearance, returns, or does not respond as expected. People with poor circulation, reduced sensation, diabetes, or immune problems should discuss cryotherapy before treatment.
