What should you know about neurotrac emg biofeedback?

Short answer
NeuroTrac EMG biofeedback displays muscle activity to help a person practise controlled muscle activation or relaxation.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Sensors
- Surface sensors detect activity from a selected muscle
- Feedback
- A screen or sound reflects changes in muscle activity
- Purpose
- Practise more controlled activation or relaxation during rehabilitation
How EMG feedback works
Surface sensors are placed on the skin over a selected muscle. The device detects electrical activity and turns it into visual or sound feedback. This gives you information that is difficult to notice from feeling alone: whether a muscle is switching on, staying tense, or relaxing between efforts. A therapist chooses the muscle and task, then interprets the signal alongside movement quality and symptoms. Read more about [EMG Biofeedback](/technology/emg-biofeedback/). The feedback does not diagnose the cause of weakness or replace a physical examination.
Using it in rehabilitation
Wear comfortable clothing and tell the therapist about skin sensitivity, rashes, open wounds, or difficulty sensing the area. During a session, you may practise a small contraction, relaxation, breathing pattern, or functional movement while watching the display. The goal is accurate control, not simply producing the largest signal. [Exercise Therapy](/treatments/physiotherapy-and-rehabilitation/exercise-therapy/) may be paired with biofeedback to transfer the skill into everyday movement. Follow the prescribed practice schedule and report fatigue, pain, or skin irritation so the setup can be changed.
When to seek care
Pause the session and tell the clinician if sensors cause persistent redness, itching, pain, dizziness, or unusual symptoms. Seek medical assessment for new or worsening weakness, loss of sensation, severe pain, or a change in bladder or bowel control; those symptoms need evaluation beyond biofeedback training. Contact the therapist if the display changes but your movement or symptoms are not improving, because the target muscle or exercise may need reassessment.
Questions to ask
Which muscle are we training, and what should I feel during the exercise? Is the aim activation, relaxation, timing, or endurance? How will you judge progress outside the device? What should I do if the signal and my movement feel mismatched?

Questions people ask
Does EMG biofeedback stimulate the muscle?
EMG biofeedback primarily measures muscle activity and shows it to you; it is different from electrical muscle stimulation.
Can the device diagnose a nerve problem?
No. The display is a training aid. A clinician must assess symptoms, strength, sensation, and movement to investigate the underlying problem.
