What should you know about multiple skin tags?

Skin tags are small, flesh-coloured or slightly darker pieces of soft tissue that often hang from a narrow base. They commonly occur where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as the neck, underarms, eyelids, groin, or beneath the breasts. Having several can reflect repeated friction or individual tendency. They are not the same as warts, and a clinician can check the diagnosis when a growth is hard, irregular, pigmented, painful, or different from the others.

Leave a stable, symptom-free tag alone if it does not bother you. Avoid cutting, tying off, or applying unverified products at home, particularly near the eyes or genitals. Friction can be reduced with comfortable clothing and gentle skin care. If tags catch on jewellery, bleed after rubbing, or affect your confidence, a clinician can discuss skin tag removal. Depending on the site and appearance, options may include cryotherapy for lesion removal or electrosurgery.

Arrange an assessment if a growth changes quickly, becomes persistently painful, bleeds without repeated rubbing, develops an ulcer, or changes colour. Seek care for a lesion that is firm, fixed, or not clearly a skin tag. A tag that repeatedly catches and becomes sore may also need treatment to prevent ongoing trauma.
