Motorcycle burn scar

Burn depth, location, infection, and healing tension influence the final appearance. A healed scar can be flat and darker or lighter than nearby skin, or it can become raised and firm. Scars crossing a joint may restrict movement as they contract. Itching, tenderness, dryness, and sensitivity to sun can occur while the skin remodels. A scar that is enlarging beyond the original wound, repeatedly breaking down, or limiting movement should be examined rather than judged only by appearance.

Once the wound is fully closed, moisturise as advised and protect the area from sun with clothing or a suitable sunscreen. Do not pick crusts or rub fragile skin. A clinician may recommend silicone-based scar care, pressure therapy, physiotherapy, or other measures based on the scar’s thickness and flexibility. For an established scar, Fractional Laser Treatment may improve texture, while Scar Revision Surgery or a Skin Graft can be considered for selected scars with functional problems or substantial tissue loss.

Get medical help promptly if the area becomes increasingly red, hot, swollen, painful, wet, foul-smelling, or suddenly opens. Fever or feeling unwell can accompany infection. Arrange a scar review if tightening affects a joint, the scar keeps growing, or itching and pain interfere with sleep or daily activities.
