Motiva Flora tissue expander

A surgeon places the expander beneath the chest skin, often after breast tissue has been removed. The device is gradually filled during follow-up visits, allowing the surrounding tissues to stretch over time. The pace depends on healing, skin condition, available tissue and the reconstruction plan. A later procedure may replace the expander with a permanent implant or another reconstruction option.

The name identifies a particular product design; it does not by itself describe your cancer, surgery result or suitability. Your surgeon considers previous treatment, skin quality, chest shape, general health and personal preferences before recommending an expander.

Follow wound-care and activity instructions, attend filling appointments, and wear any recommended support garment. Keep the incision clean and watch how the skin changes after each expansion. Ask before lifting, driving, exercising or sleeping in a position that presses on the device. Discuss pain relief, future implant choices, expected appointments and what happens if the expansion needs to pause.

Contact the surgical team promptly for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, drainage, wound opening, fever, worsening pain, or a sudden change in the device shape. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, faintness or rapidly spreading swelling. Early review helps the team assess infection, fluid collection, skin tension or another complication.
