Can a miscarriage happen before your period?

A pregnancy may end soon after implantation, before a person knows they are pregnant. Bleeding can then look like a period, with cramps, clots or a change in timing. A home test may become negative as pregnancy hormone levels fall, but the result and timing do not establish the cause on their own.

A late period also has many possible explanations, including normal cycle variation, stress, illness or hormonal changes.
