Mild left hydrosalpinx: what to know

The tube connects the area near the left ovary with the uterus. Scarring or previous inflammation can narrow its outer end, trapping fluid and changing how the tube moves an egg. A left-sided finding does not tell you how the right tube functions. Some people notice pelvic aching, discomfort during sex, or discharge; others have no symptoms. Imaging may identify the change during an ultrasound or HSG, and the report needs to be read alongside your history.

Review the images with a gynaecologist or fertility specialist. Clarify whether the right tube is open and healthy, whether the left tube communicates with the uterus, and whether there are signs of infection or pelvic scarring. Depending on your goals, care may involve observation, treating an active infection, removing or closing the affected tube, or planning IVF. Decisions should consider pain, prior pelvic inflammation, ovarian function, sperm factors, and whether pregnancy is being attempted now.

Seek urgent medical assessment for sudden severe one-sided pelvic pain, fainting, repeated vomiting, heavy bleeding, or marked weakness. Contact your clinician promptly for fever, worsening pelvic pain, or foul-smelling discharge, particularly after a uterine or tubal procedure. A mild scan finding still deserves review if symptoms continue or pregnancy is being planned.

Ask how certain the scan or HSG finding is, what the right tube shows, whether the fluid may enter the uterus, whether infection assessment is appropriate, and how observation, surgery, or IVF would fit your personal fertility plan.
