Microneedling with growth factor: what to know

The clinician cleanses the skin, may use topical numbing, and passes a sterile device over the selected area. The needles create small channels; a growth-factor product may be applied during or after the procedure according to the clinic’s protocol. Growth factors are signalling proteins, but products differ in their source, formulation, handling, and intended use. A label alone does not predict how your skin will respond.

The immediate response can include redness, warmth, tightness, sensitivity, mild swelling, and occasional pinpoint bleeding. The treatment may be suggested for fine lines or uneven texture. It cannot restore lost volume, treat every scar, or guarantee a particular cosmetic change.

Before treatment, disclose active eczema, acne, infection, cold sores, allergies, medicines, and previous reactions. Ask to see the product name, ingredients, source, storage and expiry information, and the reason it is being recommended. Afterward, follow the clinic’s gentle cleansing and moisturising instructions, avoid rubbing or picking, and pause irritating products, heat, heavy exercise, and swimming while the skin is recovering. Protect treated skin from sunlight and resume active products only when advised.

Tell the clinic about worsening pain, expanding redness, increasing swelling, pus, fever, unusual discharge, or blisters. Seek urgent medical attention for rapidly spreading facial swelling, breathing difficulty, severe eye pain, or vision changes. Do not repeat the procedure or apply another active product while a significant reaction is being assessed.

Ask which growth-factor product is planned, what it is intended to do, how sterility is maintained, and what results are realistic. Discuss whether standard microneedling, fractional laser treatment, or RF microneedling fits your concern better, and agree on follow-up and complication advice.
