What should you know about micro fasciotomy?

Fascia is a firm layer of connective tissue surrounding muscles and compartments. Injury, swelling, bleeding, or exertion can raise pressure inside a compartment and restrict circulation or nerve function. A surgeon makes an incision to open the restrictive fascia and allow tissues more room. The exact location, incision size, anaesthetic, and whether the wound is closed immediately depend on the cause and the condition of the tissues. Before treatment, tell the surgical team about medicines, allergies, previous operations, and when the symptoms began. Afterward, keep the dressing and incision instructions clear, elevate the limb if advised, and use crutches or protected movement exactly as directed. Do not place weight through the area until the team confirms it is safe. Recovery may include wound checks, gradual movement, strength work, and physiotherapy. Ask when bathing, driving, work, and sport can resume, because these depend on the site and healing progress.

Seek urgent help for worsening severe pain, a limb that becomes cold or pale, new numbness or weakness, rapidly increasing swelling, or difficulty moving the fingers or toes. Contact the surgical team for fever, spreading redness, foul drainage, wound separation, or pain that is escalating instead of settling.

What caused the pressure in my compartment? Which tissues are involved? Will the wound be closed straight away? How much movement or weight is allowed? What symptoms should trigger an immediate return?
