What should you know about mesenteric panniculitis lymphoma?

The mesentery is a fold of tissue that supports parts of the bowel and contains fat, blood vessels, and lymph nodes. In mesenteric panniculitis, this fat may look inflamed, thickened, or hazy on abdominal imaging. The appearance can overlap with infection, autoimmune inflammation, previous surgery, medication effects, or cancer involving nearby tissue. Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, and lymphoma can involve abdominal lymph nodes or other structures, but mesenteric panniculitis itself is not proof of lymphoma. Symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, weight change, fever, or night sweats need a clinical assessment rather than a conclusion from one scan phrase.

Ask the clinician who ordered the scan what features were seen, whether lymph nodes are enlarged, and whether comparison with older images changes the interpretation. Depending on the findings, care may include observation, blood tests, repeat imaging, PET-CT Scan, or tissue sampling. If lymphoma is confirmed, treatment is selected by subtype and extent; options may include Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, Radiotherapy, cellular treatment, or a stem-cell transplant in selected situations.
