Short answer

A regular cycle can still include menorrhagia, so predictable timing does not rule out a womb condition, hormone issue, or iron deficiency.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Regular timing, heavy flow

A cycle may arrive on schedule while the bleeding itself is excessive, prolonged, or disruptive. Fibroids, adenomyosis, endometrial polyps, and changes in the womb lining can contribute. Hormonal conditions and medicines can also affect flow. A regular pattern describes timing; it does not explain the amount of blood loss.

Look for signs that repeated bleeding is affecting you, including fatigue, dizziness, headaches, paleness, breathlessness, or reduced stamina. These symptoms can occur with iron deficiency anaemia.

How to prepare for assessment

Make a simple record for each cycle: start and finish dates, protection changes, clots, pain, leakage, and missed activities. Arrange an appointment if heavy flow is new, worsening, or interfering with daily life. Tell the clinician about contraception, medicines, bleeding after sex, and pregnancy possibility.

Assessment may include blood tests and, when indicated, an examination or scan. Treatment can reduce bleeding, replace iron, regulate hormones, or address a structural cause. Your goals, medical history, and future pregnancy plans guide the decision.

When to seek care

Seek urgent care for fainting, severe weakness, confusion, chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe pelvic pain, or rapidly soaking protection. Prompt review is also needed for bleeding between periods, after sex, or after menopause.

Questions for your doctor

Could fibroids, adenomyosis, polyps, or a lining problem explain the flow? Should I have blood tests for anaemia? What treatments can preserve fertility? How will we know whether treatment is working?

Questions people ask

Can periods be regular and still be too heavy?

Yes. Menorrhagia concerns the amount, duration, or impact of bleeding, not only whether periods arrive predictably.

Should regular heavy periods be investigated?

Yes, especially when the pattern is new, worsening, prolonged, or linked with fatigue, dizziness, pain, or breathlessness.
