What should you know about ice for headache?

Short answer
A wrapped cold pack may ease some headache pain briefly, but it does not treat every cause of headache.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How cold may help
Cold can reduce skin sensation and may feel soothing on the forehead, temples, or back of the neck. Headache triggers vary and can include dehydration, illness, heat, nasal inflammation, muscle tension, migraine, or stress. Relief from ice does not show which cause is present, and worsening or repeated headaches need a broader assessment.
Using a cold pack safely
Wrap the pack in a thin cloth and place it on the painful area for a short period, then remove it and let the skin return to its normal temperature. Stop if the skin becomes numb, painful, mottled, or unusually pale. Rest somewhere quiet, drink fluids if you may be dehydrated, and keep a note of triggers, associated symptoms, and what helps. Follow medicine instructions rather than combining products casually.
When to seek care
Seek emergency help for a sudden severe headache, new weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, confusion, fainting, seizure, stiff neck with fever, or a headache after a significant head injury. Arrange medical review for a new pattern, frequent episodes, persistent vomiting, vision changes, or pain that keeps returning despite self-care.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your pattern fits migraine, tension, sinus-related pain, or another cause; which treatments are suitable; and which symptoms should prompt urgent care for you.
