What should you know about hypotension when sitting?

Short answer
Hypotension while sitting may reflect low circulating volume, medicine effects, or a condition affecting the heart or blood-vessel regulation.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why symptoms may appear while seated
Sitting usually places less demand on blood-pressure adjustment than standing, but symptoms can still occur. A low reading may be related to dehydration, recent illness, blood loss, medication, a slower heart rate, or reduced pumping strength. Slouching or sitting still for a long time can also affect how blood returns to the heart, especially when a person is already vulnerable to pressure changes.
Pay attention to whether the sensation is light-headedness, spinning, weakness, blurred vision, nausea, or breathlessness. Dizziness while sitting can have causes other than hypotension. The timing of symptoms, posture before the episode, meals, heat, and any palpitations help a clinician interpret the pattern.
What you can do now
When symptoms begin, stop walking or driving and sit safely, or lie down if you feel close to fainting. Avoid standing abruptly. Keep a record of readings taken with a correctly fitted cuff, along with your position and symptoms, but do not repeatedly check in a way that increases anxiety. Maintain ordinary fluid intake unless you have been told to restrict it, and arrange a GP review for persistent or recurring episodes.
When to seek care
Seek emergency help for fainting, chest pain, severe breathlessness, confusion, a new irregular heartbeat, weakness on one side, or signs of serious bleeding. Prompt medical review is appropriate for repeated seated dizziness, falls, worsening fatigue, or symptoms after starting or changing a medicine.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your readings should be checked lying, sitting, and standing, whether your medicines need review, and which symptoms require emergency action.

Questions people ask
Can low blood pressure cause dizziness while sitting?
It can, although dizziness has several possible causes. The associated symptoms and blood-pressure pattern help guide assessment.
Should I stand up to recheck a low reading?
No. If you feel faint, stay safe and seated or lying down; only change position when symptoms have settled.
