What should you know about hypervascular liver metastases?

Hypervascular describes how a lesion takes up contrast because of its blood supply. It is an imaging description, not a separate cancer type. The radiology team considers the timing of enhancement, lesion size and number, the rest of the liver, and the known or suspected primary cancer. Bowel Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer and other cancers can spread to the liver, while the scan pattern alone cannot identify the source.

Your team may compare earlier scans, arrange liver-focused imaging, and review tissue results when needed. Blood tests can help assess liver function, but they do not replace imaging or clinical review. Treatment depends on the primary cancer, liver involvement, disease elsewhere, symptoms and general health. Options may include Chemotherapy, Liver Resection or Tumour Ablation; a multidisciplinary team weighs whether one approach or a combination fits.

Contact your oncology team promptly for new or worsening yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, increasing abdominal swelling, persistent vomiting, confusion, fever or severe right-upper-abdominal pain. Seek urgent help for collapse, severe breathlessness, uncontrolled pain or inability to keep fluids down.

Ask which scan features support the interpretation, whether a biopsy is needed, where the primary cancer may be, whether the liver lesions can be treated locally, and how treatment could affect liver function.
