What should you know about hyper pigmented?

Short answer
Hyperpigmented skin has areas darker than nearby skin because pigment production or distribution has increased.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How to interpret the change
Darkening can occur after a spot heals, following friction or irritation, or after repeated ultraviolet exposure. Some patterns are linked with hormones or medicines. Colour alone cannot identify the cause: location, texture, speed of change and symptoms matter. Flat marks are different from a raised, scaly or bleeding lesion. A clinician may examine the area and review skincare, medicines and recent inflammation.
Care and treatment choices
Protect exposed skin from sunlight, use a mild cleanser and moisturiser, and stop products that sting or cause peeling until the skin settles. Do not scratch or pick. If marks remain, a dermatologist may discuss Skin Brightening Treatment, Chemical Peel, IPL Photofacial, Picosecond Laser Treatment or Hydroquinone Treatment. Treatment should follow a diagnosis; aggressive lightening can irritate skin and make uneven colour more noticeable.
Signs that need assessment
Book an assessment for a new dark area that changes in shape, border, colour or surface, or for one that bleeds, crusts, hurts or itches persistently. Seek prompt help if pigment changes spread quickly or occur with facial swelling, blistering or breathing problems. Persistent unexplained darkening is worth discussing even when it causes no discomfort.
Useful questions
Ask which cause best fits the pattern, whether a medicine or irritation may be contributing, what improvement to expect, and how to protect the area during treatment. Ask whether a procedure is suitable for your skin tone and what symptoms require review.

Questions people ask
Is hyperpigmentation always permanent?
No. Some marks fade as inflammation settles, while others need treatment or ongoing protection.
Can irritation worsen dark marks?
Yes. Repeated stinging, rubbing or picking can keep inflammation active and deepen colour.
