What should you know about hyaluronidase injection for extravasation?

The term describes material outside the intended location. With filler, this may contribute to swelling, pressure, firmness, colour change, or pain, but those signs can have several causes. The clinician must assess blood flow, skin appearance, sensation, and the filler involved. Hyaluronidase acts on hyaluronic acid; it is not a universal antidote for every injected substance or every post-injection reaction.

Contact the injector or an urgent medical service as soon as concerning symptoms appear. Record when the injection happened and how symptoms changed, and take clear photographs if this does not delay care. Bring the product name and treatment record. Do not puncture the skin, squeeze the area, inject more enzyme, or rely on a product purchased online. A clinician may decide on targeted hyaluronidase and additional observation based on the examination.

Go to emergency care for sudden severe pain, pale or grey skin, a net-like dusky pattern, blisters, marked coldness, or loss of sensation. Any new visual disturbance, weakness, confusion, breathing difficulty, or swelling of the throat or tongue requires emergency help immediately.

Ask whether the symptoms suggest extravasation, reduced circulation, infection, or another reaction; which filler was involved; and what monitoring is needed after treatment. Ask how quickly the skin should be reassessed and which changes mean you should return immediately.
