Hyaluronidase is an enzyme clinicians use to break down hyaluronic acid, including some injectable fillers.

Its action is specific to hyaluronic-acid filler; it does not dissolve fillers made from other materials. The amount, placement, and firmness of filler can affect the clinical plan.

In aesthetic care, hyaluronidase may be considered when hyaluronic-acid filler needs reduction, repositioning, or urgent assessment after a filler concern. A clinician first considers the product involved, the area treated, the timing of symptoms, and whether examination is needed promptly. It is delivered by injection into a clinician-selected area.
