The manoeuvre moves loose inner-ear particles away from a sensitive balance canal. When those particles are the reason for brief spinning after turning in bed or changing head position, improvement can be noticeable quickly. Symptoms may return if particles remain displaced, if the manoeuvre was performed on the wrong side, or if a different balance problem is present.

Move slowly when sitting up and walking, especially immediately afterwards.
