How long does allergy testing take to work for chronic sinusitis?

A skin test is usually checked after a brief clinic interval. A blood sample may take longer because it is processed by a laboratory. A positive result indicates an immune response to a tested allergen; it does not by itself prove that allergen is causing every blocked nose, facial pressure or change in smell.

Chronic sinusitis can involve several factors, including ongoing nasal inflammation, polyps or infection. If an allergy is relevant, reducing exposure and using the treatment recommended for your nose may take time before congestion and drainage settle. The result should be interpreted alongside your symptoms and examination.

Write down how long symptoms last, whether they vary at home or work, and any link with dust, animals, seasons or cleaning. Take your medicine list to the appointment. Ask before pausing antihistamines or other products, because some can interfere with skin-test reactions. Continue the agreed sinus plan until your clinician reviews the result.

Get urgent care for swelling around an eye, vision changes, severe headache with fever, confusion, a stiff neck, or rapidly worsening facial swelling. Arrange routine review if blockage, discharge, reduced smell or facial pressure continues despite treatment, because the diagnosis and plan may need reassessment.
