How common is constipation in dehydration?

Short answer
Constipation is a common presentation of Dehydration because too little fluid can leave stools harder and more difficult to pass.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What this means
Your large intestine absorbs water from digested material. When the body has lost more fluid than it replaces, the stool may become dry and bowel movements may be less comfortable. Dehydration can happen with sweating, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, poor intake, or medicines that increase fluid loss. Constipation is common in dehydration, but constipation alone cannot show that dehydration is the cause. Other factors include low fibre, reduced movement, changes in routine, and some medicines.
What you can do
Replace fluids gradually with regular drinks, unless a clinician has told you to restrict fluids. If you have been vomiting or had diarrhoea, ask a pharmacist about an appropriate rehydration drink. Add fibre slowly and include gentle movement if you feel well enough. Avoid suddenly taking large amounts of laxatives or fibre when you are significantly dehydrated; a pharmacist or clinician can help choose a safe option and check for another cause.
When to seek care
Get urgent help for confusion, fainting, severe weakness, inability to keep fluids down, very little urine, severe abdominal pain, or a swollen abdomen. Seek prompt advice if constipation persists despite restoring fluids, or if there is blood in the stool, repeated vomiting, or fever.
