What should you know about hooded eye thread lift?

Short answer
A hooded eye thread lift uses temporary support threads to subtly lift nearby brow or temple tissues, but it cannot remove excess eyelid skin.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Main aim
- Subtle support around the brow and upper-eye area
- What it cannot do
- Remove excess eyelid skin
- Common early effects
- Swelling, bruising, tightness or tenderness
What the treatment involves
A clinician places fine threads under the skin to create gentle mechanical support. The aim is a modest change in the outer brow or upper-eye contour, rather than a dramatic opening of the eye. The material may be polydioxanone thread, which the body gradually breaks down. Results depend on skin laxity, brow position, eyelid anatomy and the clinician’s technique.
Hooding can come from excess upper-eyelid skin, a low brow, soft-tissue descent or a combination. A thread lift addresses some surrounding support but does not directly excise skin or correct every cause. Review droopy eyelids and sagging skin when you are unsure what is creating the hooded appearance.
Before and after treatment
Choose a qualified medical practitioner who examines your eyelids, brows, facial movement and medical history. Ask which layer will be treated, where the entry points will be, how asymmetry will be handled and whether another approach is more suitable. Discuss medicines and supplements that may increase bruising, and follow the clinic’s instructions about washing, makeup, exercise and sleeping position.
Temporary swelling, bruising, tightness or tenderness can occur. Do not massage or press the treated area unless your clinician tells you to. Keep follow-up appointments so healing and the position of the threads can be assessed.
When to seek medical care
Contact the treating clinic promptly if redness, warmth, drainage, worsening pain, fever, thread exposure or a new marked asymmetry develops. Seek urgent care for vision changes, severe eye pain, sudden facial weakness or rapidly increasing swelling, especially if breathing is affected.
Questions for your doctor
What is causing my hooding, and what change can this procedure realistically make? Which thread material and placement do you recommend? What alternatives would address excess eyelid skin? How should I manage swelling, and who should I contact if my symptoms worsen?

Questions people ask
Can a thread lift remove hooded eyelid skin?
No. It may reposition or support nearby tissue, while excess skin usually requires a different assessment and treatment plan.
How soon can I return to normal activities?
Timing varies with the procedure and your healing; follow the treating clinician’s specific advice about exercise, makeup and pressure on the area.
