What should you know about high power laser diode?
Updated

Short answer
A high-power diode laser delivers concentrated light energy to a selected target, while treatment settings and cooling are adjusted for your skin and goal.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the term means
A diode laser is a device that produces a focused wavelength of light. High power describes the energy delivered during a pulse or treatment period; it does not by itself describe a diagnosis or guarantee a particular result. In dermatology, the light may be absorbed by pigment in a hair follicle, allowing controlled heating around the follicle during laser hair removal. The handpiece, pulse duration, spot size, and cooling method all affect how the energy reaches the skin.
What to do before treatment
Have a qualified clinician assess your skin tone, recent tanning, hair colour, treatment area, medicines, and history of unusual scarring or pigment changes. Follow the clinic’s preparation instructions, including how to shave and which products or hair-removal methods to pause. During treatment, protective eyewear is essential. Ask which device and wavelength will be used, how the area will be cooled, and what temporary redness, swelling, or sensitivity may occur afterward.
When to seek care
Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain is worsening rather than settling, blisters or open skin develop, swelling spreads, or the treated area becomes increasingly warm and tender. Seek urgent medical help for trouble breathing, facial swelling, or widespread hives after treatment. New darkening or lightening that persists should be assessed so the skin can be examined and future settings reviewed.
Questions for your doctor
Which wavelength and settings fit my skin and hair? What cooling and eye protection will be used? How should I prepare, and what changes should make me contact you?

Questions people ask
Is high power always better?
No. The useful setting depends on the device, target, skin characteristics, and cooling; excessive energy can increase irritation or burns.
Can it be used for hair removal?
Some diode lasers are used for laser hair removal, when a clinician selects suitable settings for the area and skin.
