What should you know about herp angina?

Angina commonly causes pressure, squeezing, heaviness, or tightness in the chest when the heart needs more oxygen, such as during exertion. Discomfort may spread to an arm, shoulder, neck, jaw, or back, and may occur with breathlessness, sweating, nausea, or unusual fatigue. Hypertension can add strain to the heart and blood vessels. Symptoms vary, so the absence of dramatic pain does not rule out a heart problem.

Stop exertion and sit or rest when symptoms begin. Arrange prompt clinical assessment for recurring discomfort, especially if it appears with walking, stairs, or emotional stress. A clinician may review your history, blood pressure, medicines, and risk factors, and may arrange an Electrocardiogram. Take prescribed medicines as directed; do not start, stop, or share Blood Pressure Medication or Statin Therapy without advice.

Call emergency services immediately for chest pressure or tightness that is severe, lasts more than a few minutes, occurs at rest, returns after resting, or comes with breathlessness, sweating, faintness, nausea, or pain spreading to the arm, jaw, or back. Do not drive yourself. New or worsening symptoms need urgent evaluation because heart attacks and other emergencies can resemble Angina.
