What should you know about heavy eyes and headache?

Screen use or an uncorrected vision problem may leave the eyes tired and the forehead aching. Allergic Rhinitis, Chronic Sinusitis, or a Common Cold may add congestion and facial pressure. Dehydration and Heat Exhaustion can cause headache with thirst, weakness, dizziness, or heavy sweating. COVID-19 and Dengue Fever can also cause headache with other systemic symptoms; the combination alone cannot identify a diagnosis.

Rest in a cool, quiet place and take regular fluids unless a clinician has restricted them. Reduce screen glare, blink often, and take breaks from close work. A cool compress over closed eyes may help. Follow the label for any suitable pain medicine and avoid taking repeated doses beyond the instructions. If symptoms keep returning, arrange an examination of your eyes and general health.

Call emergency services for a sudden severe headache, new weakness or numbness, confusion, fainting, seizure, stiff neck with fever, or sudden loss of vision. Seek urgent assessment for severe eye pain, repeated vomiting, marked light sensitivity, a head injury, or headache with a high fever and worsening illness. Move out of heat and seek help if you are confused, faint, or unable to drink.

Ask whether you need an eye test, blood pressure check, or assessment for infection, dehydration, or heat illness. Describe the timing, location, severity, screen exposure, sleep, fluid intake, fever, congestion, rash, and any change in vision or neurological symptoms.
