What should you know about heat nosebleed?

Hot air, air conditioning, dehydration, rubbing, nose picking, and forceful blowing can make the delicate blood vessels inside the nostrils easier to disturb. Allergic Rhinitis, Common Cold, or Sinusitis may add inflammation and congestion. A nosebleed itself does not identify the cause; Hypertension can also be relevant, particularly when bleeding is recurrent or difficult to control.

Sit upright and lean slightly forward so blood does not run down your throat. Pinch the soft part of your nose firmly and continuously while breathing through your mouth. Do not tilt your head back, pack the nostril with tissue, or keep checking before the pressure has had time to work. Once bleeding stops, avoid nose blowing, heavy exertion, hot drinks, and picking for the rest of the day. A humidifier, saline spray, and gentle hydration may reduce dryness; ask a pharmacist before using a medicated nasal spray.

Seek urgent care if bleeding is heavy, follows a significant injury, causes dizziness or weakness, makes breathing difficult, or continues despite sustained pressure. Arrange a medical review for frequent episodes, bleeding from both nostrils, easy bruising, or medicines that affect clotting. Keep a note of the weather, triggers, duration, and which nostril was affected.
