What should you know about heat exhaustion long term effects?

Short answer
Heat exhaustion usually improves after cooling and rehydration, but ongoing or returning symptoms should be medically assessed.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Understanding recovery
After an episode, tiredness, headache, thirst, dizziness or reduced tolerance of heat may linger while the body restores fluid balance. Dark urine can suggest that more fluid is needed, although urine colour is not a diagnosis. Persistent vomiting, weakness, faintness or confusion is not something to manage by waiting at home. Other illnesses can resemble heat exhaustion, so the context and examination matter.
Supporting your recovery
Rest in a cool environment and drink regularly in small amounts if you can swallow normally. Eat normally when nausea has eased, and avoid alcohol, intense exercise and another hot shift until you feel well. Re-enter heat gradually, with planned shade breaks, breathable clothing and ready access to fluids. Keep a record of symptoms and any medicines or health conditions that may affect hydration or temperature control.
When follow-up matters
Arrange prompt care if symptoms remain after cooling and fluids, recur with mild activity, or interfere with walking, work or drinking. Emergency help is needed for confusion, fainting, seizure, severe weakness, repeated vomiting or inability to take fluids. Do not drive yourself if dizzy or confused.
What to discuss
Ask whether your symptoms fit heat exhaustion, whether tests are needed, how long to avoid heat, and how medicines or kidney, heart or endocrine conditions change your recovery plan.

Questions people ask
Can heat exhaustion cause symptoms the next day?
Fatigue, thirst, headache or dizziness may persist, but continuing symptoms need clinical advice.
Does one episode mean lasting illness?
Not necessarily. Recovery varies, and persistent or repeated problems should be checked for other causes.
